Trióna Sweeney is a Dublin-based visual artist whose paintings and drawings begin with places encountered in passing — roadsides, industrial edges, abandoned spaces and views glimpsed while moving. Her work considers what we notice, what we overlook, and what remains with us afterwards.

The paintings’ deployment of diaphanous translucent oil veils imply something seen or half-seen. The substance of the painting dictates where the nuance lies and where meaning might be found.

Trióna established Sandymount School of Art in 2007 and relaunched it as, artschool by Trióna Sweeney in 2023. Alongside her professional practice she mentors and coaches the development of an international community of painters from her Dublin base.
